2. When I was the age of nineteen, I joined a jolly band
To march from San Antonio Unto the Rio Grande.
3. Our captain he informed us, Perhaps he thought it right, That before we reached the station We'd surely have to fight.
4. We saw the smoke arising; It seemed to touch the sky,
And the very first thought that struck me was "Is this iny time to die?"
5. We saw the Indians coming; Our colonel gave command:
"To arms, to arms l" he shouted, "And by your horses stand."
6. We fought them full nine hours Before the strife was o'er,
And the like of the dead and wounded I never saw before. |
